South Korea has announced Wednesday a project by 2020 with the establishment of a network of fifth generation or 5 G. The State spends 1 600 billion won in this project supervised by the Ministry of Science which has set a deadline to six years. The Ministry of Science, in charge of the project of network deployment 5G in South Korea set a maturity of six years. This project is supported by the State which has invested 1.1 billion euros. By comparison, European Commission validated the 5 G PPP consortium to prepare the arrival of the 5 G, which is a Public-private partnership. The 5G PPP has been allocated the sum of 700 million euros by the European Commission, which will be distributed over the next six years. The 5G PPP brings together actors such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Orange, Telecom Italia, Intel or Thales. The telecoms NSN OEM chairs the consortium. South Korea gives until 2017 to carry out a first draft of the project, which will be tested and will be marketed from 2020. It should be noted that the fifth-generation network allows to have a thousand times faster than the 4G connection, meaning that it will be possible to download a movie in less than a second. The Korean Government has calculated that the establishment of the 5G will yield 331 billion won, or EUR 229 million to telecom equipment manufacturers.
The Ministry said in a statement having helped the country with 2G's growth in the 1990s, the 3G in the 2000s, the 4G in 2010 and focused now in the 5G which will happen in 2020. Many areas will be able to take advantage of this new technology, customers will be able to receive the 5G during a train journey at very high speed (500 mph), a niche to operate to South Korean groups. SK Telecom and Korea Telecom were solicited by the Government Korean to participate in this project, as well as manufacturers of smartphones like LG or Samsung which had indicated in may 2013 have tested for the first time the 5 G successfully and stated that its power could transmit data at more than 1 Gbit / second over a distance of 2 km.
