In difficulty, Hewlett-Packard put on new strategies and the reduction of
operating costs. With this in mind, HP has just resell 2 400 patents related
to Palm, iPaq, Bitfone, and WebOS. This will allow Qualcomm, the
purchaser, to expand its activities in mobile.
Manufacturer HP suffered decreases in PC sales and going through a
difficult phase. The last quarterly balance sheet reported a decrease of
3% of the total turnover, which reached slightly more than $ 29 billion.
However, the recovery plan, established in 2012, begins to bear fruit, because
HP has managed to make a profit of $ 1 billion.
At the beginning of the year, HP does not turn away from its goals. The cost
reduction continues and the manufacturer will focus on certain activities.
Concerning the general public, HP wants to capitalize on the Tablet
and hybrid devices while for professionals, the focus will be, inter alia,
put on mobility, the big data and the Cloud.
By refocusing its
activities, HP separates from neglected products and sectors.
The Group has
announced the sale of many manufacturer Qualcommpatents. In total, HP
sells 2 400 patents including 1,400 are or will be deposited in the United
States. They are all fundamental elements of mobile operating system.
Some
patents are related to Palm, bought by HP in 2010. Having failed to
develop activities, HP split. After having sold WebOS to LG last year,
recent patents relating to this software just be transferred to Qualcomm. Also,
the manufacturer has acquired the company Bitfone, acquired by HP in
2006, patents and iPaq, specializing in personal assistants and created
by Compaq, that HP acquired in 2001.
The amount of the transaction was not
transmitted.
If HP seems to move away the mobile sector, Qualcomm wants to expand its
skills and activities in the field.
