Microsoft: sales of tablets Surface on the rise, but still no balance

Microsoft has just released its last quarterly balance sheet. With a turnover and profits on the rise, the band made a balance higher than estimates. Revenues from tablets increased widely. However, Microsoft has not reached the financial balance and did not specify the number of units sold.
In July, Microsoft made public thefailure of its Surface tablets. Microsoft indicated that these products, marketed in October 2012, had represented a turnover of $ 853 million. However, development costs, marketing and impairment losses of 900 million led to a loss position.
Microsoft has not stopped to this failure and introduced the second generation of tablets, Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, in September.
The Group has published its financial results for the quarter concluded on 31 December.
Revenues from tablets increased widely. Microsoft earned $ 893 million, or more than double the previous quarter, with sales of these products had generated $ 400 million.
This strong growth is encouraging. However, for these products, Microsoft spent $ 932 million and ends, therefore, deficit of $ 39 million. Nothing worrying, but Microsoft must achieve the balance.

On this point, Microsoft cultivates mystery. If in November, the Group stated aim for the sale of 16 million units by end of December, it did not say if this had been achieved nor the number of sales. Especially as french official website, only the Surface Pro 2 128 GB is available. The others are still out of stock.
